About Rose Eide-Altman, NCTM
Thank you for your interest in studying piano with me!
I have been teaching piano privately in the Washington - Baltimore area for over 25 years. Currently I am the primary
piano instructor at Carroll Community College, Westminster, MD, where I teach several levels of class piano, as well as
individual instruction. Private piano lessons are also offered in Columbia, Brookeville, and my home in Sykesville. The locations are listed below.
For many years I have been an active member of the Music Teacher's National Association, and currently I have the certification of "NCTM": Nationally Certified Teacher of Music from MTNA.
There are many requirements to complete to receive this certification. Their website states:
"A Nationally Certified Teacher of Music (NCTM) has demonstrated competence in professional preparation, teaching practices, ethical business management
and lifelong learning... To date, more than 3,500 teachers across the United States have earned the NCTM designation". www.mtna.org
My own piano studies began when I was 7 years old. During my teen years I accompanied for choirs and soloists, as well as
competed in several Music Teachers National Association events. My undergraduate degree is in music education with a piano emphasis from
Columbia Union College, Takoma Park, MD and in 1996 I earned a Master of Music degree, also in music education with a piano emphasis from
the University of Maryland, College Park, MD. Individual piano instructors included Florence Clarembeau,
Neil Tilkins, and most recently Bradford Gowen.
Continuing education is important to me and each summer I enjoy attending piano seminars, workshops and a variety of musically enriching events.
Other musical activities that I am responsible for throughout the year include
organist/choir director at Salem United Methodist Church, Brookeville, MD;
director of the The Encore Singers; choir director of Fairhaven Chorale, Sykesville, MD;
editor/webmaster of several websites, including Women at the Piano.
Recent Performances: March 1, 2014, Atholton Seventh-day Adventist Church Concert Series
Program: Mozart "Piano Concerto, No. 21, K467" with string ensemble; Chopin "Fantaisie, Op. 49"; 6 songs by the Encore Singers
I also played two duo piano recitals with Ann Davis, performing the Mozart "Piano Concerto, No. 21, K467" and Milhoud "Scaramouch" together, as well as the Chopin "Fantaisie, Op. 49" individually. These recitals took place on Feb. 19, 2014 at Fairhaven, Sykesville, MD; and March 11, 2014 as a faculty recital at Carroll Community College, Westminster, MD
